Wow - I have been making that dish for years. Except I use leftover meat instead of hotdogs. It is very yummy, you can add pepper and garlic powder or a few herbs. Sometimes I put in a curry sauce I like. Great video - she is such a nurturing soul. I hope her kids & grandkids get all her memories down.
You beat me Ms Cheryl!!! I love her too and she is actually on my friends list on Facebook....she is wonderful and I loved watching her on GMA this morning
What a beautiful woman she is....isn't she? My grandmother use to also make this but she would add a can of peas and also make it with just potatoes and the hot dogs of course and scramble a couple of eggs and put them into cook with it towards the end...I find myself making this too for my own kids and grandchildren....and it is really good both ways....
A little oil? Wow! This is the kind of meal my kids grew up on. I was so embarrassed when I finally served them a piece of meat they would have to cut and none of them knew how to do it. One pots and casserole were the nectar of the god for us.
My Grandmother use to make this all the time, she called it a one-pot dinner. There is another dish that is on the same line as this one for the modern day. You use a cup of elbow noodles (cooked and drained), fry hot dogs with onion add noodles and a can of veg. soup. Add just enough water so it won't stick to skillet, let simmer for 10 min.
I am amazed at how well she has aged on such a poor man's diet. She is a sweetie and I hope she can keep cooking for a long time to come. As for the hot dogs, potatoes, onions etc.wouldn't be my first choice for a poor mans meal. I prefer liver and onions with potatoes on the side. This dish is also best with vigorous helpings of ketchup. I haven't had liver and onion for years because no matter how poor we are I can't convince my family to eat it. Thanks for posting this because although her meal wouldn't be my first choice of favourite cheap meals, it kept her going and that is a good thing. Ta.
She reminds me of my husband's Aunt Grace and my own Grandmothers Lula and Isabel.
