Autumn's Changing Colors - 10/1/08

Yesterday I decided I would try to paint the office since I'll have a new piece of furniture arriving for that room in another week or so.  After starting the job, it quickly became apparent to me that my painting days may be over.  I wasn't able to climb on the ladder above the first step; it just didn't feel safe.  So I painted what I could reach and called Mr. Handyman (a franchise) to come in today and finish the job for me.  He will also paint the guest bedroom that the office alcove is part of.  It will be in a slightly lighter sage green.  I suppose tomorrow's job will be putting the room back together and washing and hanging the curtains again.  I'm beginning to think this house makeover I'm involved in might never end. (Despite how it looks color wise in this picture, the throw on the bed actually does match the green on that wall).

I recently purchased a new bed for the other guest room (seen below here).  I love the bed but it does overpower the room a little.  I have not decided on a color for this room yet.  The spread on the bed is a giant "granny square" that I crocheted when my daughter was a little girl.  I'm liking all those colors right now.  I am thinking of painting that night stand black and taking the one on the left out of the room.  The chest at the end of the bed belonged to Warren's Grandfather.

If its not too late in the day when the painting is done, I'm also having him drill some more holes on the inside of my TV armoire so that I can put the shelves in it that came with the thing.  For some reason the manufacturer didn't drill the support peg holes the whole length of the inside.  Then at least the shelves won't have to go sit the garage, they'll be in the cabinet and out of the way; plus I'll get an extra little shelf at the top to put CD's or something.  Perhaps I'll take a picture of that and post it later today once its done.

  1. I love your pick of the sage green there. It's like bringing the outside in. Your bed spread looks amazing, how long did it take you to do something like that?

  2. I think it took me a whole winter to crochet that thing working on it at night after the kids were put to bed.

I like the green too. Thanks.

  3. I really like the idea of changing areas of your living space. You are doing a stunning job. Your chest is also stunning. Having crocheted I must say I admire the evenness of your stitches. I struggled in my first few projects with yarn tension.

  4. Thanks Bennett. I haven't crocheted anything for a long time. I might have gotten it out of my system with that particular project.

  5. I can see what you mean about the color not looking quite like the bedspread, but I like the color in the office. I had a bedroom that color when I was younger. Lime green walls, white furniture and bright yellow bedspread. (looking around the office and realizing...) My office is butter yellow and sage green and creamy furniture... some tastes seem to mute but never really change!

  6. Actually the color on the walls is a dark sage green but it does look limey here. Oh well, its hard to capture true colors.

  7. Sharon sounds like you found your true colors and are sticking with them.

  8. Dunno, my bedroom is red, white, black and gold now... Another combination I like, but so far on the opposite side of creamy whites and buttery yellows you'd wonder that the same person would feel really comfy in both rooms! Maybe I picked soothing colors for work and passionate colors for play! lol

  11. Ok, let me rephrase that. The wooden chest at the bottom of the bed is beautiful. (omg, lmho)

  12. Bennett I *knew* which chest you were referring to. This isn't that kind of blog!

Iggy, I don't know how to crochet a bulls eye pattern, but it would be stunning although probably bad feng shui to sleep with a target on yourself.

Jenny why are you always trying to get your baby sister Bennett into trouble?

Sharon I think that we probably do choose colors to reflect our intentions for the room they're in.

  13. All your hard work is paying off, looking very nice. My living room is in a soft sea-sponge green. Never would have thought I would paint any room in my home green, but I like it. Love the new bed also. Can't wait to see the finished picture! Don't over work yourself!!!

  15. Glad to hear you actually hired someone to paint the room..the idea of you on a ladder scared me, but the idea of me on your ladder painting scared me more LOL

I think it's going to be gorgeous when it's all put together. It was nice spending time with you while I was back East and I can't wait to see the finished (well, it's never quite finished, is it?) product.

Thanks for everything and glad to see you are putting some color on the walls.

  16. Dorene, I knew you'd be happy about the color on at least some of my walls. The difference from the builder's beige is startling. I had to at least try to see what I could do, but the idea of laying on the floor for days with paint drying in the carpet all around me while I waited for someone to figure out I needed help, well that scared me LOL.

I enjoyed seeing you too. It was fun. Sorry about the cat allergies.

  17. I love your house...it feels so warm and inviting!! I am with you on the never ending part...lol I am in the race to get things done before company arrives but the chance of that happening is slim but they will understand that it is a project in progress!

I saw the finished results and it looks nice!

  19. If I could only stay well for more than four days I could get it finished...lol But it is coming along and David is a real trooper helping with all the projects.
