This We Have Now - May 13, 2010

Again Rumi puts into words that which I can not.

This We Have Now

This we have now
is not imagination.

This is not
grief or joy.

Not a judging state,
or an elation,
or sadness.

Those come and go.
This is the presence that doesn't.

  2. Interesting. As youth to you I must admit it eludes me. Is he talking about adjustment? Juxtaposition maybe?

  4. Nym, Rumi is always talking about God. However, I was using this particular poem to describe my feelings about the relationship I have now with my husband.

  5. As I remember from my reading, Rumi had an exceptionally close friend who died or was killed. This work of his would fit that as well.

  6. Bless your heart, I do love you.

I was not understanding what Rumi was speaking of when he said: "This is the presence that doesn't." Is he so profound as to mean 'doesn't exist'?

I am sorry I am taking away from your blog don't mean too. I'm just not familiar with his works so don't know how to read him. Will have to look him up.

  7. I think he was referring back to the line above "those that come and go" and the presence that doesn't (come and go) as being something more permanent and unchanging.

You're not taking away from my blog at all, you are adding to it.

  8. Yes Bennett, two years on the 21st of this month. It was two years ago today that he left our house for the last time and went into the hospice in-patient facility.
