Well I really had my first radiation treatment today. Yesterday it turned out to be just x-rays. I don't know if they told me that was going to happen or not, but if they did, I didn't remember. On the way there yesterday we got stuck in a massive traffic jam. It turns out that a gas line had ruptured just ahead of where we'd gotten stopped and they weren't letting any cars through. I had to end up (at the direction of the police) backing up and turning around to take an exit I'd just passed. It made us 20 minutes late for the appointment (and no that's not why I didn't get a treatment yesterday). Today there was no traffic mishaps and in fact we were a little early. When I got on the table for my treatment the table didn't want to work. How many little signs is the universe sending me that maybe I shouldn't be doing this? After a few minutes of turning things off and on the got the table to move and got me into position. The treatment took less than 10 minutes. It didn't hurt and I don't feel any effects from it yet.
And that boys and girls was my day.

Let's keep thinking it will stay that way. (not hurting and no ill effects!) :)
ReplyDeleteI agree with Sharon.
ReplyDeleteGood Luck with your Treatments. Cheryl, I just finished Radiation treatments (35 of em) last month for Throat Cancer. I am sure your Dr gave you a good briefing on what you can expect. If you have any questions I would be more than happy to try and answer them.
ReplyDeleteOne thing we found...you will get some burns around the area that is being treated. ALOE VERA ..fresh from the plant! It really worked for me in treating the burns. I cannot reccomment it enough!! Also drinking protien milk shakes helped with the wieght. (and I am really skinny to start with). Hang in there it is not that bad.
Best regards,
Chuck
Hi Cheryl, glad you are in good spirits with this and moving forward. I read back thru the past few blogs, I had dropped you a line several weeks ago when I saw you on. We met thru Tomlins page on Y360. Hope things continue to go well. Hugs
ReplyDeleteHope the future ones go so well, and the traffic goes better ;>
ReplyDeleteChuck, my husband had radiation to his throat in 2004 for base of the tongue cancer so I know what you went through wasn't easy. He had a tough time swallowing food there for awhile and lived on the protein shakes.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your good wishes.
Thanks Sharon

ReplyDeleteSo glad your treatments went well, I use to take my mom to radiation treatments when her cancer had spread to her lungs, she didn't have any problems except being real tired afterwards. Good Luck to you, and you will always be in my prayers.
ReplyDeleteThanks Star.
